Lumber Calculator

The calculator below will calculate how many board feet of lumber you need for your project.

How is board footage of lumber calculated?

Board footage is actually a measure of volume. 1 board foot is 1 sq feet of wood, 1" thick. An easier way to think of it is 1 board foot is equal to 144 cubic inches.

Let's say you have a piece of wood that is 8' long, 2" thick and 2" wide. Multiplying those together, you would have 384 cubic inches of wood (96" X 2" *2" = 384), 384 / 144 = 2.67 so this piece of wood would be 2.67 board feet of lumber. Use the calculator below to calculate your lumber.

Ok, here's your answer.

This would be {{answer}} board feet of lumber.
